ABSTRACT
The article presents important
recommendations that should be given to patients
starting treatment due to temporomandibular
disorders. Involvement of individuals receiving
treatment and their participation in therapy is a
very important and helpful factor. Regular and
daily relaxation exercises for the masticatory
muscles, hot compresses and the use of specialized
physiotherapy treatments are an essential
element of the therapy. The recommendations
provide information on the procedure that
should be adhered to on a regular basis. Such
a procedure is a key element of multidirectional
therapeutic action, and the patient’s individual
work is also helpful in raising awareness of the
etiological factors of the ailment occurring in the
stomatognathic system. Written instructions are a
convenient solution as the patient can return to
the them at any time and recall their specifics.
General principles should be individually
modified and supplemented depending on the
character of temporomandibular disorders.
An important element of the doctor-patient cooperationis explaining the validity of complying with these recommendations in the treatment of
masticatory organ dysfunction.
