ABSTRACT
The article describes the prosthetic
treatment of a patient after multiple removal
of chondrosarcoma and its recurrences. The
patient experienced an oronasal fistula, which
made her everyday life difficult. A decision
was made to prepare a long-term obturator to
close the current oro-nasal communication.
In dental prosthetics, obturators are used to
restore missing soft and hard tissues in the jaw
bones. Considering the time of application,
obturators are divided into: immediate, early
and final. Immediate obturators are made before
the operation that would lead to the oro-nasal
communication, and early obturators are made
when the prosthodontist was unable to take an
impression/scan before the resection operation.
Obturators are made of hard, flexible or hard
materials covered with soft material. They can
have precision elements attached to be supported
on the patients natural abutments or anchored on
dental implants.1-5
The case described below presents the
procedure for making a long-term obturator
made of acrylic material, supported by one-year
follow-up of the patient.
